Frequently Asked Questions

WHAT DO I NEED TO DO TO PREPARE FOR MY FIRST SUGARING APPOINTMENT?

It's best to be well hydrated and use gentle exfoliation several days before your first appointment. If your skin is dehydrated, it tends to hold onto the hair which can result in breakage rather than complete removal from the root. Don't forget to relax! The more tense you are, the more uncomfortable you will be.

HOW LONG DOES SUGARING LAST?

You have three different hair growth cycles that are each approximately 10 days long so, we recommend consistently waxing every 3-4 weeks. Please be aware that you may not be 100% smooth the very first time you get sugared. Because of the different hair growth cycles, your hair may grow back "patchy". The more consistent you are, the smoother you'll be. There are many benefits to maintaining a regular hair removal cycle. Sugaring regularly will cause the hair to grow back finer, thinner, and more sparse.

DOES SUGARING HURT? CAN I REDUCE THE PAIN?

We won't lie to you, sugaring does hurt! Here are some tips to help minimize the pain. First of all, be consistent. This results in a less painful sugar. Get on a consistent schedule and stick to it! Year round is ideal. Try to avoid caffeine before your appointment, as caffeine is a stimulant, and can make your skin more sensitive. Lightly exfoliate before you come in. The second appointment is less painful than the first and gets easier each time you come in.  We also suggest scheduling your first appointment right after your period. Your pain threshold is higher during that time, and you'll be more comfortable. Stop shaving!

HOW LONG AFTER SUGARING CAN I HAVE SEXUAL INTERCOURSE?

It is ideal if you wait 24 hours after being sugared to have sexual intercourse. The pores have been opened and the skin exfoliated, trying to avoid anything from infecting the exposed area is best.

ARE THERE ANY ACTIVITIES I SHOULD AVOID?

Your hair follicles will be open for up to 24 hours after sugaring and during this time, you will want to avoid sexual intercourse, swimming pools, hot tubs, and rigorous exercise to limit sweating and skin irritation. Your skin may also be more sensitive.  If your skin feels extremely irritated or is painful to the touch after the first day, it’s best to call or text your Esthetician and tell them about the symptoms you are experiencing so they can assist you.  It is also imperative to protect any freshly sugared skin from sun exposure.

HOW EARLY SHOULD I ARRIVE FOR MY APPOINTMENT?

No need to be extra early to your appointment! Arrive about five minutes early to your first appointment, just in case you need to use the restroom or if you need to fill out your online consent form, to be ready for your esthetician at the start of your appointment! As a returning client, you are able to arrive right on time, but you can arrive early and wait until your appointment time in our waiting room and use the restroom.  We request you come in early, or on time, as our appointments are scheduled by service time and back to back! If you are running late, we have a grace period of 5 minutes before there is not enough time in the appointment until the next client arrives, if later than 5 minutes, we can help you rescheduled as needed!  Please immediately text your esthetician if going to be late.

UH OH! I'M SUPPOSED TO GET MY BRAZILIAN SUGAR TODAY BUT I JUST STARTED MY PERIOD. WHAT SHOULD I DO?

Be prepared that sugaring may be a tad more painful if you're on your period. If you are not shy, we have no problem sugaring you, providing proper hygiene has been exercised.

I'VE HEARD OF THE SUGARING TECHNIQUE, BUT I DO NOT KNOW THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THAT AND REGULAR WAXING. HOW IS IT DIFFERENT?

Sugaring is an all-natural hair removal method. Sugar is a paste made of sugar, citric acid, and water. The technique and application are more advanced. It does not adhere to the skin, only the hair and dead skin cells.

WHAT IS THE IDEAL HAIR LENGTH FOR MY 1ST SUGARING APPOINTMENT?

Sugaring allows us to get hair that is shorter than waxing, therefore we advise a minimum of 1/4 of an inch of hair growth or 10 days of hair growth after shaving. If it has been over two months since your last trim, we advise trimming before your first appointment while still keeping in mind the specific hair lengths that we ask for. Your esthetician will decide if your hair is too short, and may ask to reschedule your appointment for a few days later to let the hair grow out.

HOW DO I CARE FOR MY SKIN AFTER MY SUGARING APPOINTMENT?

After 24 hours, we advise gentle exfoliation (with emphasis on the gentle).  Light gentle circles with an exfoliation glove is ideal, with your non-dominant hand. As this is practiced daily, the likelihood of various skin irritations or ingrown’s may be greatly reduced.

IS THERE ANYONE WHO SHOULD NOT GET SUGARED?

If you are on medication that increases your skin's photosensitivity, you may not be a good candidate for sugaring. If you are using Retin-A or retinol products on your skin, discontinue the use of these products 3-5 days before your appointment. Clients taking the oral prescription Accutane should wait 12 months before getting sugared.
